Press Release: Lams Ahmed renames his poetry series, ‘Allahu Ak-bars,’ as ‘Ak-bars’

Based upon the advice of some Muslim brethren and with hindsight, Lams Ahmed says he agrees that the title should at least be devoid of Allah's name to avoid the likelihood of mockery and blasphemy.

Lams Ahmed wants to, through this channel, announce the change in name of his 4 years long-standing poetry series, Allahu Ak-bars, to Ak-bars. This is on the back of well-meaning Muslims reaching out to him to justify their reservations about the name of Allah being attached to what seems to be a wordplay.

Background

Lams first came up with the catchy name ‘Allahu Ak-bars’ because, at the start of his annual poetry mixtape release, he felt it was an inspiration from Allah for him to especially tell his story and address certain societal issues. So Allahu Ak-bars was actually imagined to be ‘great bars inspired by Allah.’

Based upon the advice of some Muslim brethren and with hindsight, Lams Ahmed says he agrees that the title should at least be devoid of Allah’s name to avoid the likelihood of mockery and blasphemy. The decision was also made based on the fact that it isn’t every poem on the mixtapes that strictly talk about Allah.

New Title

Lams Ahmed believes that with the title ‘Ak-bars,’ the series still has the benefit of identifying with it’s earlier releases and history. Akbar in Arabic means ‘greatest.’ Lams Ahmed believes that every year, through the mixtape, he will release his greatest bars to entertain, inform, and educate us all. Which makes the title ‘Ak-bars’ the chosen title for the series.

Lams Ahmed has renamed all his previous “Allahu Ak-bars,” from editions 1 to 4, Ak-bars I, Ak-bars II, Ak-bars III, and Ak-bars IV respectively. That is barring the ones on iTunes which is unchangeable for now. For the subsequent years, expect editions of Ak-bars and more to come your way.

He wishes to thank all the folks, especially brother Ridwan Mohammed Rahma Sabtiu, who drew his attention to the possible problems the initial name may bear. And he is arms open to future corrections and constructive criticisms of his works. He asks Allah to be pleased with us All.

Thank you.

Letter to Paradise

The theme of this poem is love. In very simple terms, it extols a woman, her beauty and virtues.
