Creative organization and the organizer of The Inspirational Poetry Show and March To My Talent, The Budding Studio, has opened submissions for its upcoming poetry slam dubbed, The PowerTree Slam Championship. This is the maiden edition of the slam that seeks to court poets from across the country for a face to face poetry battle.
Poet Ibrahim Muhammad Saani who is the CEO of The Budding Studio has counted some four objectives of the poetry slam that his organization is rolling out. They are:
- Create a viable platform for up and coming poets in Ghana.
- Inspire and challenge hidden talents to germinate their crafts
- Blend education and talent for the development of individuals and the nation.
- Build up each participant’s personal development through public speaking, poetry, and spoken word training.
There will be three stages in the entire program as follows:
- Opening Stage: this is where a participant register to be part of the program by presenting a maximum of three minutes of spoken word video performed by the participant.
- Voting Stage: At this stage, you will be sent a voting app link to ask your fans, friends, or family to vote and keep you in the competition. The higher votes you get, the more your chances to get to the next and final stage.
- Grand Slam: This is the final slam to search for the champion. This will take place in Tamale.
The rise of I.M. Saani The Poet through a poetry slam

‘Go For It’ hitmaker, Ibrahim Muhammad Saani said he had envisioned the program being rolled out by his organization because of the impact poetry slam has had on his fledging poetry career back in the day.
Emerging as the Ehalakasa Poetry Slam Championship in 2017, he cited how it has paved the way for him to be neck-deep in the art of poetry, host his own successful poetry shows, and subsequently release a poetry album.
According to him, he seized the opportunity to participate in the 2017 edition of the Ehalakasa Championship which was held in the North. With zeal, passion, and enough preparation, he emerged the Champion in the Tamale slam. He became again the national champion after battling with the top three poets in each of the slams held in the northern regions – Northern, Upper East, and Upper West Regions.
This, he said, afforded him the opportunity to be selected as the representative to Ghana in the Bambi Slam Festival in Ivory Coast in 2018 where poets from across the world met to lock horns. Poets came from places like Chad, Togo, Cameroon, France, Germany, etc. He iterated that meeting such poets from all over the world fueled his passion for poetry more. And he learned a wealth of stuff from fellow poets. Not to add the connections he got that are still relevant for him to date.
With the oncoming PowerTree Slam Championship, I.M. Saani believes that it will mark the beginning of excellence for those who will seize the opportunity.
